Eric J. Thomas is a social scientist, psychotherapist, and minister whose work bridges mental health, spirituality, and social impact to help individuals and communities heal. A Detroit native, Eric has dedicated his career to advancing emotional wellness, leadership development, and culturally grounded approaches for personal and collective transformation.
Eric is a sought-after thought leader, featured on Fox Soul, Impact TV, The Word Network, and other national platforms. He has served as a keynote speaker and guest lecturer at institutions including Michigan State University, Morgan State, Howard University, Valdosta State University, and Trinity Washington University, where he focuses on mental health, leadership, and the role of Black social justice movements and media narratives in shaping society. He has spoken on behalf of the United Way, AARP, National Alliance to End Homelessness, and other institutions focused on making change. Eric has also been a TEDx Talk speaker, further establishing his voice as one committed to hope, truth, and healing.
A licensed psychotherapist with advanced clinical training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy from the Beck Institute, Eric currently works in Business Development and Strategic Partnerships for a mental health agency in the DMV, where he collaborates with schools, community organizations, and service providers to expand access to culturally responsive care. His work is grounded in compassion, empowerment, and an unwavering belief in the potential of every individual.
Eric's professional journey also includes service as a K–12 school administrator in Title I districts, where he championed students in underfunded communities and developed initiatives supporting academic success and emotional stability. This experience continues to shape his commitment to equity, advocacy, and generational uplift.
As a minister and emerging public theologian, Eric integrates psychology, faith, and culture to make healing accessible and spiritually meaningful. He also leads Sozo Group, a consulting practice specializing in mental health strategy, marketing, grant development, and staffing, supporting organizations dedicated to community well-being and social justice. He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
